WORKSHOPS
The workshops below present relevant and current information, and are presented in a positive, friendly, and informal setting. They promote and assist music education, and both students and teachers will benefit from the experience.Workshops are 60-90 minutes in length and may be tailored for the particular educational needs of both students and teachers.
1: Make Your Band and Orchestra Come Alive!
(Solving problems that instrumental groups encounter)
Your students and teachers will enjoy the creative energy and vibrant presentations of music. Vince works with a wind ensemble, concert band, and jazz enemble making practical suggestions for improvement in balance, intonation, phrasing, and interpretation. Print outs are issued to all who attend.
2: Jazz Improvisation, You Can Do It!
This workshop gives participants the ability for a spontaneous give and take exchange. Vince works with a rhythm section and 3-4 horns, or with a big band. The emphasis is on beginning jazz improvisation. Print outs are issued to all who attend.
3: Arranging Music for the Real Worls
With a unique freshness and energy, the emphasis is on writing for small combos, big bands, and orchestras. Showing you how to write for a few instruments and achieve a big sound. Most of the musical examples are from Vince's library and his arranging book. Print outs are issued to all who attend.
Vince spent three days with the Atlantic Fleet Band (US Navy Band) in Norfolk, Virginia. He taught music composition, music arranging, and worked with small combos and the jazz ensemble.
4: How To Survive in the Music Jungle
With Vince's remarkable ability to communicate his ideas, he touches on music publishing, copyright, contract, songwriter and artist pitfalls, licensing, marketing oneself, and group problems. The aim of this workshop is to introduce important concepts of the music business and how you can protect yourself against sharks. Print outs are issued to all who attend.
5: What Is Musical Theatre?
Five Things a Successful Musical Should Have
Vince will work with a soprano and a pianist dealing with relevant topics such as:
- What makes a compelling lyric?
- The purpose of song and dance in a musical
- The art of auditioning
- An overview of what works and what doesn't work in a musical
- The long road to production
